LoRa (long range radio) is a radio protocol that uses license-free frequency bands such as 915MHz (US) and 868MHz (EU). LoRa devices are great for sending data wirelessly over long ranges. In recent years, LoRa has become popular for its potential for community infrastructural resilience and communicating outside mainstream communications channels that are surveilled and mined by corporations and governments. There are a variety of projects that create and maintain software and firmware for LoRa hardware, the largest ones being Meshtastic and Meshcore.
