Type to me
Let your fingers taste the dark earth
Lichens crunch stones with soft teeth
Colliding epochs
Transduce
Energy leaves your body through your fingertips and becomes
memory
history
state
self
Here, I’ll show you where to touch
The symbols engraved in silica layers
Crystalline time
Non-ferrous pathways
Arranged with a knowing beyond knowing
Forged in seas of liquid chrome
Mineral cognition
Patterns on stone

No Nature is a series that attempts to blur the lines between what we might call natural, human, and machinic and positions them as part of the same entangled whole. It hopes to reveal the material, even geological realities of computation.
In the piece, custom software manipulates photographic data. The resultant imagery is an infinitely renewing mess of computationally filtered, multiplied, and stretched image information.
This piece suggests that networked computers are tangible emotional infrastructures that carry, on thick bundles of fiber optic cable, precious human and more-than-human stories. And that these stories are entwined with the everyday execution of corporate and political functions from filing taxes to calling drone strikes. By arranging these minerals just right, ‘we’ do wondrous and terrible things.
